So the semester has finally started and classes are on their way. You already have essays and project to write, so what do you do? You turn on your laptop or PC and double click on that trusty Microsoft Word of course!
Well we all have used Microsoft Word before and whether you know it or not, Microsoft has updated the Office suite many times. For most of us you probably don’t notice the difference but perhaps the newer Icon of Word or Excel. Well if you are one of the lucky ones to get a new laptop this past few months, you will be surprised at what the Office suite now looks like.
Microsoft Office has been powerful and very useful software for students and professionals alike. Competitors haven’t been able to catch up to them due to their popularity and Microsoft’s strong hold on the Market.
But enough of that we all know what it is, lets get to the review of Office 2007!
To begin, the icons for the programs look very sleek and cool! But with new icons comes new interface too! Quite surprising since for the past few versions, they have pretty much all looked very similar. Many time users complained that the new versions are just to annoy the users since you spend a good amount of time learning where all the functions and options are and then the next upgrade, they moved it to another place. Well they did it again, Of course this time for the better IMO.
Looking at the office suite, it looks very cool, very Web 2.0 I have to say. The usually File, Edit, View bar is gone and replaced with the more Vista look which they call it The Ribbon. Sporting its own Office Button (similar to the Start Window Button) It gives you the commonly used commands, New, Open, Save, Print, Close, etc and next to the Office Button is another Save button (saving is very important if you don’t know by now!).
Where the old menu bar used to be is now replace with what looks like tabs. By clicking on the a tab, you don’t just get a pull down menu anymore, instead you get a very informative horizontal bar that has the functions shown to you. Its been said that Microsoft ask a lot of people about what functions they want to add to the office, and many asked for stuff that is already on the software, just didn’t know it existed. So to solve this problem, they came up with this. The Office 2007 design is very stylish, very attractive and very user friendly. This is definitely a great and worthy upgrade.
Comes in many great flavors, but for us lets stick with Home and Student or the Standard Version. With Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and One note*, for you Students who takes note on your laptop included with the suite.
*Home and Student Only
